Autumn Dawn♥

fine art and design

about

Born and raised in the Sangre de Christo Mountains in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Autumn Dawn Gomez is a Comanche/TaosPueblo/Navajo artist and designer. She is also known in some circles as B.Honey♥ or cavebaby.

As a baby, Autumn spent much time with her grandparents and elder relatives, all who introduced her to her indigenous culture and beliefs. She danced at powwows and ate snowcones in the Oklahoma summer and helped make biscochitos and build tall bonfires in the Taos Pueblo wintertime♥

When she wasn't climbing hills and playing in the dry arroyos, little Autumn Dawn loved to read. She read everything, eventually finding that she felt most at home in the paranormal section of her local swimming pool/library. To this day, Autumn has a mind full of weird facts and artifacts, crypto-histories and monster sightings. Her parents pushed her academically and creatively, making sure she knew that her education and experience would create keys to THE FUTURE.
Crossing town (literally) to get to high school each day, Autumn was lucky to come into contact with the small yet thriving street culture Santa Fe had to offer. From local hip hop nights, punk shows, and raves at the roller rink (!), Autumn found herself immersed in these communities. Together with the simple toughness of the peoples of Northern New Mexico, the high fashion and class of her powwow-going elders, and aspects of underground music cultures, her aesthetic and perspective began to develop. Thus she became the world's first

When little Autumn Dawn went to college at the Institute of American Indian Arts, she had no idea that she'd be splitting her time between adventures with a young, wild group of Native America's future artists, curators, and go-getters; dancing nights away with New Mexico's most dedicated and ferocious Junglists and House Music Heads; and doing stuff like writing papers, reading books, and being in student government. Her professors probably thought she was way more into having fun than focusing on her studies, but at IAIA, she enjoyed learning about the legacy of Native American art. She learned that through what we create now, we can tie our past, present, and future together. When the next wave of youth arise, they will have a nice, solid foundation on which to BUILD SOME DREAMS♥♥♥
For half her life, Autumn Dawn had been friends with someone named Nico Salazar (since their first day of Junior High, in fact). Not many people stay friends for too long, but  Autumn and Nico just had some sort of strange psychic bond that no one can still quite understand. Just before she graduated college, they put their common beliefs of creativity, positivity, hard work, friendship, equality for marginalized people and cultures, and consciousness together with their other common beliefs of funkiness, originality, New Mexican pride, and shiny, bright, beautiful things to wear♥ Thus The Soft Museum was born, and everything in the house began to levitate♥

Currently, you can find Autumn working on the latest Soft Museum project, hanging out with her family, going on an adventure with brothers and friends, drawing, painting, photoshoppin' it up, making strange music, or editing videos♥ Her mission in life is to make the world a little more beautiful, friendly, and funky for all souls to enjoy!
